Operation Hope Tote

Hope_Tote_2008_editedDid you get up this morning and take a nice hot shower with plenty of shaving cream, a razor, shower gel, shampoo and hair conditioner? Did you have deodorant, a toothbrush and toothpaste and powder? Did you even think about not having these basic items?

For the homeless and those living in crisis these are “luxury” items. When you are struggling to put food on the table to feed your children or pay the rent and utilities, some of the basics aren’t in the budget. Hope Tote bags can make a difference by providing basic personal care items. We need personal care items for all ages—adults, as well as, infants and children. So next time you step into the shower or wash your hands, or bathe your baby, think of those less fortunate.

hope_tote_2008-3"Operation Hope Tote" is our annual Easter outreach. We encourage members of the community to fill one Hope Tote bag for a homeless or poor man, woman or child. Bags are filled with NEW toiletry items: socks, T-shirts & underwear, individually wrapped toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap/body wash, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, lip balm, brush/comb, tissues, hand/body lotion, body powder, disposable razors, and shaving cream. We need family size, regular size and sample size/hotel sized items.

We ask that filled Hope Tote bags be returned to the Mission by March 31st. The filled bags are then distributed to those in need via our Operation SONshine community outreach van.

To pick up empty Hope Tote bags or receive further information please call Julie at 413.732.0808 ext. 114 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Warming Communities ... One Coat at a Time

The need has never been greater and it’s never been easier to make a difference in your community. Here is your opportunity to make sure that nobody goes without the basic necessity of a coat this winter.

The Springfield Rescue Mission is collecting clean, gently used coats and jackets as part of their community service project. Coats for men, women and children in all shapes and sizes are welcome. We are dedicated to distributing good quality coats, free of charge, directly to local children and adults. The program is an easy way for you and your family to pass along coats and jackets that are no longer needed.

Drop off Locations:

  1. Springfield Rescue Mission, 19 Bliss Street, Springfield, MA, 9AM-4PM, Monday-Friday
  2. Blockbuster, 1891 Wilbraham Road, Springfield, MA 01119

2011 - A Year to Remember!

year_end_banner2

Dear Friends,

It's almost time to sing The New Year's Song - the one about Auld Lang Syne. Did you know those strange words mean "the good old days"?

With the clock ticking towards 2012, I'm sending this email to thank you for your help in making 2011 a year of "good old days".  While we faced many challenges, many lives were changed and that makes all the challenges worthwhile!

We couldn't have supplied 100,000 nutritious meals, offered 17,000 safe shelter beds, distributed 80,000 items of clothing, provided 62,480 hours of work training ... and more .. without your support.  I really can't thank you enough.

Because you care, I want to invite you to make one last life-changing donation for the year to give help and hope to even more people in our neighborhoods.  And there's still time to secure one more tax deduction for 2011.  Your gift will help us end one year and begin another ... strong.

Thank you!

Ron Willoughby, Executive Director/CEO
